Affordable Overland Trailer

As a family of 6 Overlanding can take some work. We have been on the hunt for an affordable overland trailer to add to our setup. This 1965 Stevens M416 overland trailer is just what we needed. When i saw the retail price on the bottom of that price sticker, it was $199.99! I nearly choked on my tea after seeing that! Usually these kind of tents are pretty expensive. This monster size tent is just the right size for me! Ofcourse i'm just one guy. So yeah, i got plenty of room! 👍😎🏕🎉🎉🎉

    I get it but .. I have a '22 and the interior feels better than an Audi I had, it has a more modern ICE system, has remote start, real wood on the wheel, dash, and doors. Approach and departure angles are bad, no question. Fuel economy isn't great, but I can manage 18-19mpg if I'm trying for it, but I didn't get it for economy vs. ability and overall design for resilience.

    so glad i found this build! im getting my gx nxt wk 🤞 and have the exact same thoughts about builds. Even funnier, ive been eyein the same tire set up! a few questions if you dont mind! does the 255/80/17 fit in the spare location? if so not sure, do you have a trailer hitch? what offset are those rims? last, did you lift before trying the tires/rims w stock suspension? so awesome to find you!

    • @BackroadExploration
      @BackroadExploration 6 дней назад

      I do have a trailer hitch. In fact I recently added an Off-road trailer to our setup. The spare doesn’t fit. I’m currently not running a full-size spare. I talk about it in a few of my videos including my trailer build for all about some of my plans there. I honestly don’t remember the offset. I think someone in the GXoffroad Facebook group said the stock TRd pro wheel would work so I went with that. Either way the group is super helpful and will know the answer to that. I did the lift first then the tires and wheels. My guess is you could do the tires and wheels first but would have a good amount of rubbing.

    I have a 2010 GX460 with 130,000 miles. I find the 4.6L engine to be very under-powered, and the vehicle is always down-shifting on the highway for the slightest highway incline. Very annoying. And the highway ride is quite rough, especially over bumps. Other than that, it's a great vehicle.

    I’ve got the same ikamper tent, and (like you) being a side sleeper, found the mattress a bit too thin. I found an awesome 4” aftermarket self inflating mattress called the Qomotop Double. They are about half the price of the Exped Mattresses, and very good quality. I’ve had mine for about 3 years now. You would need two of them for your tent. There’s another RUclipsr “Rhino Offroad” that did a review video about them. He also has your same iKamper Tent, and his video would answer any questions you might have about the mattress. I love the trailer. It’s a great addition to your kit!

    • @seanmiller140
      @seanmiller140 9 дней назад

      @@BackroadExploration That’s the beauty of it. If you get a cheap $10.00 air pump, (the type that plugs into a cigarette lighter) you can suck all the air out of them, stack them on top of each other, and still close the tent up. I have the iKamper Mini. My tent only needs one of the Double mattresses. I’m able to close up the tent with the mattress, a double sleeping bag, and two full size pillows. I’m pretty sure Rhino Offroad does the same. Check out his videos. He did two of them that I watched back when I first bought my tent. The mattress is very good quality, and it’s almost as good as my mattress at home. But I do add a little air to it, even after it’s finished filling up. I do it with the same cheap air pump.

    • @seanmiller140
      @seanmiller140 9 дней назад

      @@BackroadExploration Rhino Offroad did two videos about the Qomotop. The first is a “how to.” The 2nd is a 6 month review. He also did a 3rd video about how to place all your bedding into the tent when closing it up. He uses the original mattresses for that video, but the Qomotop mattresses are even thinner, and work even better. It’s incredible to actually be able to leave all the bedding in the tent when you close it up. Saves a ton of valuable real-estate in the vehicle.
